What is a gazebo?
A gazebo is a type of pavilion structure which can be of different shapes and sizes. Typically square or octagonal, they are found in parks, gardens and other public areas. They can be free-standing or be attached to walls or other buildings. They are usually open on all sides with a roof that can be tiled, thatched, or tented. They are now common place in domestic gardens for patio, seating, or even hot tub areas. They can be build from many different materials including various woods and metals.

Will I Need Planning Permission?
Will you require planning permission for this type of garden gazebo? – No. Planning permission for general garden Gazebo's and structures would generally not be required. Gazebo’s are mainly classed as Portable Buildings, however it is your responsibility to check with your local planning office. Some other general requirements are that it must not take up more than half your garden area, and should be one metre away from your boundary (although most tend to be closer). The height guideline is that they should be less than 4m in height. There are however rare, but notable exceptions to this such as special conservation areas, so if in doubt you should check with your local planning office.
